Quarry Hill Primary School

Over recent years, Quarry Hill Primary School has welcomed a growing number of families from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. This school is committed to ensuring that all families feel a strong sense of belonging from the moment they step onto school grounds. Many new students are English as an Additional Language learners, and their families often face the added challenge of navigating a new language and unfamiliar school system.

To support a more inclusive and welcoming environment, Quarry Hill Primary School will create of a series of professionally designed and painted Welcome Signs to be installed at the entrances and key outdoor locations of our school buildings. These signs will feature the word "Welcome" in the home languages of the school’s student population.

Quarry Hill Primary School prioritises inclusive education practices. 

A number of students in this central Victorian school have additional learning needs such as speech and language disorders, autism spectrum disorder, specific learning disorders in reading and writing and other disorders or difficulties.

This TIP grant will enable the purchase of tablets which are set up with assistive apps and technology including 'voice to text' and 'text to speech' to support learners with additional needs.

Assistive technology will allow some students to access their learning in a modified, and importantly in an achievable way for them. Breaking down barriers these students face in traditional learning situations. 

Socially, this equipment will help students feel more included with the ways in which their peers learning. 

For our educators, it helps teachers tailor the learning experience for each individual child to ensure they're all supported to reach their full potential.
