Fountain Gate Secondary College is committed to creating a healthier, more sustainable future for students and community. With this grant, the school will launch a dual initiative focusing on School Gardens & Green Spaces and Sustainable Canteen Practices. This project will empower students through hands-on learning, celebrate Indigenous food knowledge, reduce environmental impact, and promote healthy living.
Importantly, this project will also serve as a tool to foster engagement among students who struggle to connect within the traditional school setting. Through inclusive, experiential activities in the garden and canteen, students will have meaningful opportunities to develop a sense of belonging, purpose, and pride in their contributions.
A key feature of this initiative is the integration of Indigenous Australian vegetables and bush tucker plants into our edible garden, which will enhance cultural education, support biodiversity, and introduce students to native food systems that are both sustainable and nutritionally rich.
