Many of Little Yarra Steiner School’s classes enjoy and utilise the river and the surrounding wetlands for class activities, with all classes taking part in tree planting and landcare activities.
Through this project, the school will expand its existing Landcare Program to include watercare and take advantage of the access to the Little Yarra River to test and monitor the health of the river as it passes by school property.
To do this, Little Yarra Steiner School will purchase water monitoring kits and a waterbug kit. These kits could be used by many year levels throughout the school, from upper primary to senior classes. Being involved in monitoring Little Yarra River river will further instil in the students a sense of responsibility and ownership over the river and an understanding of the ways in which human activities impact waterways.
